Bespoke Furniture. My Vision and Creativity: Tables in English Hardwoods

Through the grace of God I started to make furniture, mostly Tables, 35 years ago – the length of time I have shared my workshop, through the kindness of the monks at Prinknash Abbey, Gloucestershire.

I seem to be drawn to Tables especially, as they are meeting and unifying centres of community and family, and the most blessed object in the house.

Also, as tables are free-standing, the base offers an opening for a sculptural shape, in simple flowing forms – or whatever may be the request of the customer.

The table top is an opportunity to show God's artistry in the beauty of our native timbers, hopefully "book-matched", i.e. the pattern of the grain is mirrored across the centre of the table. This is something that people tend to find most pleasing, creating a visual echo and balance.

Satisfaction is also found in creating soft bow edges on sides and ends, so softening a square or rectangular top.

I also make several other types of furniture (but not everything).
